Pacific Métis Federation of Women

The Pacific Métis Federation of Women advances and advocates the collective interests of Métis women and is an independent provincial Métis women’s organization. The Pacific Métis Federation of Women serves as the vehicle to represent the interest of Métis women at the provincial level.

The concerns of Métis women in British Columbia must be heard and respected. In the midst of numerous legislative changes, we continue, with limited resources, to fulfill the mandate to provide a voice for Métis women on a wide array of national and regional issues that affect Métis communities disproportionately. We support the tremendous efforts of local and regional counterparts in elevating the voice and condition of Métis women and their families across the country.

Objectives

The objectives of the organization are to:

  1. Unite and organize Métis women in British Columbia.
  2. Maintain and promote respect for the individual rights, freedoms, and gender equality of Métis women.
  3. Foster and promote the preservation and enhancement of Métis culture.
  4. Facilitate and promote the development of services generally for the Métis and specifically for Métis women and their children.
  5. Influence policy and be actively involved in policy development in all organizations and at all levels that impact upon Métis women and their children.
  6. Establish and maintain co-operative and productive working relationships with the federal and provincial governments and all their related organizations as well as with other Aboriginal organizations.
  7. Actively seek funding for the society and its projects and activities; and represent the cultural, legal, political, social and economic issues of Métis women and their families and address their issues and concerns.
