About Us

Mandate

The Métis National Council of Women seeks to foster a contemporary understanding of the traditions and roles of Métis women. The primary purpose is to address and respond to issues and concerns of Métis women and their children. The objectives of the organization are to:

  • Unite and organize Métis women in Canada
  • Maintain and promote respect for the individual rights, freedoms, and gender equality of Métis women
  • Foster and promote the image of Métis women
  • Promote the preservation and enhancement of Métis culture
  • Facilitate and promote the development of services generally for the Métis and specifically for Métis women and their children
  • Influence policy and be actively involved in policy development in all organizations and at all levels that impact upon Métis women and their children
  • Establish and maintain co-operative and productive working relationships with the federal and provincial governments and all their related organizations as well as with other Aboriginal organizations
  • Represent the cultural, legal, political, social and economic issues of Métis women and their families and address their issues and concerns
  • Maintain the independence and integrity of the Métis National Council of Women, Inc., within the Canadian federation and resist any violation of Métis women’s rights.
