Dorothy J. Chartrand

"I remain a proud Canadian Metis Woman, who feels that I have done my service for my country in many ways and will continue to do so until my final hours."

Dorothy Bellerose was born in St-Albert, AB in 1918 of Metis parents who lived on a farm west of St-Albert.  In 1941 she joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps and volunteered to join Active Service,  She served overseas where she met her first husband.  In 1945, Dorothy married Sergeant Robert Atcheson in London, England. Upon return to Alberta, Dorothy and Robert started their family of four children.  However, Robert passed away in 1958 and Dorothy was left to raised her family.  Later Dorothy married Elie Chartrand and has lived in Edmonton ever since. In 1968, she became active in the Edmonton Ex-Service Women's Branch No. 215.  She wears her Legion Medals with pride and on special occasions wears her War Medals.
